You are absolutely right--I took the picture into my photo program and
lightened and enlarged it.
There is very clearly a several digit ID number etched into the side of
the left F key.

When you think about it, the seller started the auction at $9.95, which
indicates he probably didn't give much for it, and it seems highly
unlikely that any actual owner of a Lorée oboe, especially a fairly
recent one, would try to sell it to a pawn shop. There are far more
lucrative ways to sell an oboe of such value. I won't include the
picture in this note because list subscribers (as myself) who get the
list in digest form will be unable to see it. But I'll be happy to send
it to anyone who wants to see for themselves.
