I once made a tool for myself that does pretty much the same job. Just
get about 5 or 6 utility knife blades, separate them with small pieces
of cardboard, use tiny bolts with nuts to hold them together, and voila!
There you have it - a tool for under $5.00 that will score the end of
the bassoon cane in less than one second.
