I think there are many ways to get rid off the odor. Take the instrument out, hang it on a stand and air the case out for a day or as long as you can in the sun or someplace with fresh air. Then maybe use Febreeze or better yet there is this Dittol Surface spray which will kill germs and odor. Try spraying it in the case and then continue letting it to air out. I use this Dittol spray almost everywhere ; car, sofa, desk, phone, carpet and even on my cat litter box as it really sanitizes everything.

OR

throw some pop corn in the case. that always worked for me when I used to smoke alot and my room smelled like stale cig.

Also try putting a piece of coal. the Carbon supposed to suck all bad odor. my mom i think does that if she doesn't like the smell of our fridge.

Worst to worst if the smell is REALLY bad maybe its time to buy a new one!! hehehe....

Good luck
