Another caution: even though a laparoscopic procedure is planned,
there is always a chance that you could end up with a full blown
laparotomy (full abdominal incision). That's what happened to me,
though they knew before I actually went into the surgery that's what
they were going to do because the preop tests indicated that my cyst
was larger than originally thought. But when I had my preop
appointment, the plan was a laparoscopy. Even then, they will tell you
that there is always a chance that the surgery will be more invasive
depending on what they find.
