Thanks Sameer. (I would've emailed you privately, but your address didn't s
how up when I hit 'reply'.)

I have about 7 knives. Favorite one is an old (vintage 1940's steel) straig
ht razor set into a dowel handle. It's worn down quite a bit. Original widt
h was about 3/4 ", now it's about 1/2 " from 20 + yrs of honing. V hard ste
el. My newest knife is a Rigotti, too.

I bought a Landwell medium knife and loved it at first. Had problems sharpe
ning it, but the edge at first was wonderful for working on cane. Sent it i
n to Dr. Caswell for sharpening, but, sadly, it came back about the same. I
have his book on sharpening, too. Can't say I've found anything that works
for me every time. I must be doing something wrong; I'm fairly sure my ang
les are consistent. I have a superfine diamond stone, an India fine and a h
ard Arkansas.

I have a guide for other knives (made by Razor Edge); it's a little tricky
to use. I'm kind of skeptical that the one sold by Forrests Music will wor
k on all my knives because of the varying thickness of the backs.

Maybe I'll check out Jay Light's book.

Best reeds to you!

I have a Rigotti double hallow knife. I believe it's a soft one. I dont h
ave that sharpenning guide thats being sold at Forrest which I know for sur
e is a great item to buy nor do I have a book about sharpenning your knife.
I just have Jay Light's book and it explains how one should sharpen a knif
e briefly. Yet, I get a real sharp edge everytime I sharpen my knife. And
trust me when i tell you that i get a really thin tip. You just have to thi
n the tip while its a bit dry. I found thinning a wet tip is somehow troubl
some as it tends to break and crack.

My only problem is that i have to resharpen my knife so many times. but t
hats only because the blade is soft. Time to buy a medium one!!!!!I'm think
ing about buying the Landwell knife.
