I have an old memory too, that I wish I could put facts to:
There was a single cartoon feature, probably from the early post-WWII era
(it was in color, I think) that depicted two naval opponents (one evidently
British, the other may have been American) in a tremendous battle over
musical style. Each war machine was depicted as a different musical
instrument, firing volleys of notes at the other with extreme violence (I
remember that being "notable" - the magnitude of the violence); a truly
beautiful depiction. And the music recollects as Wagner-esque - of course
brilliantly arranged and executed by what was likely a pretty big orchestra.
Imagine the cost! For one cartoon - now THAT's the good old days.
