Subj: [DR-L] Moenig English horns
Date: Mon, 10 Nov 2003 21:00:26 -0500

Hello,
I am on faculty at a college near where I live and was asked to play the
English horn part to "Hansel and Gretel" (thanks to those who replied to that
earlier question regarding the opera..) anywho....the school doesn't own a decent
EH..or at least that is what I thought when I picked up the EH that they do
own. It turns out to be a modified ring system "Hans Moennig" English horn with
the serial number 58. It plays beautiful and has to be about 75 years old..at
least. The bell has been shattered and put back together and many cracks and
posts and such repaired.

My question..How many of these did Hans make and does anyone know what date
this would approximately fall under? It plays beautifully, but I wonder if
anyone else out there still has one/plays on it..etc..and any feed back on the
horn itself. What a find!

Shawn
