Hello Double Reed List and Ms. Paull.

I just read and stored the last few days' worth
of Double Reed Digests, and was certain that I
had read about this recording some months back
on one of the Horn Lists. Sure enough, I skimmed
each month's file for the Horn Lists, and it turned
up in discussions from August 2002.

There was a man named Frederick Vogelsang,
who had studied at Curtis Institute before World
War II, as a very gifted student of Violin, Horn,
Piano and Conducting. In 1964 he used multiple
tracks to record himself playing the Brahms Trio
for Violin, Horn and Piano, Opus 40. It was
released on "Lance Productions FV3B", but after
searching all over the Internet, I can find no refer-
ences to it still being in print. There are also no
Internet listings for Frederick Vogelsang at all.

The only reference I can find to that soloist or
the recording, was by the Member of the Horn
List who posted the article. He probably learned
what he knew from the notes on the recording.
Perhaps he can give you more information.

"Mr. Steve Ovitsky" <StevO@-----.Com>

I don't think Mr. Ovitsky knows me from
Adam, so if he asks, tell him that I keep records
of the E-Mails that interest me, from the many
Instrument Lists, to which I belong.

I find this multiple tracking of the self to be
an interesting idea, but it might be all the more
difficult to sync your Tempo Changes. He
probably had to hear himself on piano via head-
phones, while recording the violin and horn parts.
Not to mention how hard it would be to have the
virtuosity on each instrument in the first place!
Mr. Vogelsang's novel achievement certainly
would have deserved to be preserved for history,
even if the interpretation had not been the best,
although I've heard it was quite impressive!

I gotta get back to the Happy Farm.
