I agree re your thoughts on the magnifier, also with those of Phil
Freihofner. Mr. Mack was using one at his Carmel Valley oboe seminar this past summer
to check students' reeds. Mine is a Number 7 "OptiVisor" from Donegan Optical
Company in Kansas. The steri-opticon effect you get when you look at a
reed's surface is pretty neat.
