I'll tell you what I do, and maybe it will help. Before the era of
"monovision" lenses I used to wear bifocals, and constantly had the problem
of being able to see music properly because it always lied in the
"mid-range", too far from the near-vision lens at the bottom and too near
from the far range at the top. What I ended up doing was to get a special
set of lenses just for the mid-range only, and that worked out fine. I
could focus both on the music page, as well as on the conductor. They were
a little out of focus for working on reeds, but it was easy enough to
switch to the other regular lenses for that. I thought the "mid-range" was
a perfect solution to this problem.
Then later on I got a set of lenses for all ranges in one (don't remember
the technical term for it), and that was better all around. They're a
little more expensive, but worth it. I found out also that I can't go back
to the bifocals now, even though I might want to (which I don't), because
these new ones are so far superior in every way.
Hope this helps.
