I have made this post before:
I think that it is wrong to think about the oboe sound as either bright or
dark. It is my belief that it is more benefitial to think of the sound as
being "complex" or not.
A good oboe sound should have all the overtones in balance: the tip, heart
and back. By adjusting the three areas you should be able to get a "rich"
"complex" sound that has vibrancy and depth.
If a reed is not balanced - then it will be different to have the
flexibility needed to create color and warmth.
