<<<My friend has an old English horn that he is considering having restored.  It is a mid-1960's era and seems to have French style keywork.  The name is D'GWARE or something like that (it's difficult to read). Has anyone heard of this type of English horn (or does anyone know an expert I could ask)?>>>

Probably the name of the instrument is "Edgware," which was a brand made by Boosey and Hawkes in England. Edgware is the name of one of the northern suburbs of London, where the B&H factory was located from the 1930's. They sold quite a large number of Edgware instruments in England and all the Commonwealth countries, but they never became very popular in America. I found on the web something written by an employee of Boosey and Hawkes who said that "production continued at the Edgware factory until the merger with Buffet Crampon / Schreiber in 1981."
