I thought I was the only one who used 'oboeing'! I think we should use it
more often.
Also, I liked your comment on reed function; I sometimes make a reed that
looks great; proper dark/light areas when backlit, plays in tune, tone okay,
BUT does not feel comfortable. This time, I owe it to not being patient
enough to finishing the preliminary scrape (I use the method in Weber-Capps
Reed Makers Manual).
I have Jay Light's book also, and recall the advice he gives; 'eliminate the
variables' - as much as possible. Use consistent tubes, technique, cane
dimension, and you will have more consistency overall. Makes sense, yes?
