This is the number one reason there are so many bad performances involving
contrabassoon. There are many good players and students in NYC. Get a
player that owns the instrument or take the rental money and pay are real
player. You won't be sorry. There are plenty of people that play both
instruments well. If it is a doubling book with sax and clarinet Mr.
Morelli on the list might be able to steer you to a good student or if you
have the budget a professional. I could do it but I am in San Francisco.
Every bassoonist has picked up a contra and will say they have played it
before. You might be very sorry if you don't know the quality of your
contra player. An unfamiliar instrument in the hands of someone that
doesn't do it all the time. Bad idea. Insist that they get the instrument
or you will have to find someone else...etc...etc....If it is a friend I
don't know what to say...Lawrence Rhodes....
