Double-reeders:

I hope everyone enjoyed the music performances
televised on the 4th of July. Did y'all notice, during
the Boston Pops' crowd-pleasing performance, that the
B-flat clarinetists were playing red, white, and blue
instruments during the grand finale? Doesn't Vito make
the colored plastic instruments? (Plastic clarinets
have a crappier tone than plastic oboes, but perhaps
the visual effect was more sought after than the aural
one!)

My question, whimsically posed, is whether any
double-reed manufacturers have ever tried colors in
their plastic instruments. There are, God help them,
some American public schools in which double-reed
instruments are still used on the marching field. What
if, say, the Buffett greenline oboes were available
in....say, GREEN? Or Fox/Renards in school colors? Has
any manufacturer ever addressed this market, or is it
as ridiculous as it sounds? Just curious, with way too
much time on my hands--guess I oughtta be making
reeds!

Impishly,
Donna Bogan
