I have never been satisfied with the use of just one microphone. For my solo
bassoon recitals, I have had much better success with two microphones...

The first microphone is mounted between 36 and 48 inches height and placed 4
feet to the front of the bassoonist.

The second microphone is mounted between 34 and 42 inches height and placed
2 feet behind and to the right of the bassoonist.

There is no one correct way to do this, but I have had very good results
from this setup.
Good Luck!
