Thanks Miriam for the vote of confidence, but you left a letter out-the
email addy is benthin@-----.net
I got to really need my own MUTS recently as I broke the end of my
left radius (where arm connects to the wrist. Because I had a concert
coming up, I convinced the orthopedist to let me design my own removable
"cast" splint (basically velcro fuzz sewn over 4 aluminum plates).-
Using headliner material (foam/cloth) underneath, I wrapped velcro hook
tape around it and it has worked fine. I removed it to play, using just
a upper/lower supported wrist brace as one cannot do the left octave key
with a cast on. This has quashed MUTS making for 4 weeks, and if I make
it to Greensboro, it will be to enjoy the playing!
Quoth miriam Williams:
I have a problem with my thumb joints; I just can't hold the weight of
the oboe for long. I have been using MUTS support and
it works wonderfully for me. I modified it a bit and have been thinking
I could move the thumb rest higher, too; it would be
possible with the modification or without it. Contact Michael Benthin at
