Thinking about this overnight, I wonder if the person is referring to the
screws which hold the U-tube in place. If this is the case, and these screws
(or whatever the technical name for them is, since they are not really
screws) have been loosened, no wonder the low register doesn't work -- the
bottom of the boot is leaking.
