The lead in solder is also absorbed through the skin. Better to be safe tha
n sorry.
There is such a thing as lead-free solder.
I used copper wire on a reed once just because that was all that was availa
ble; a bit heavier than I'd wanted, but that reed lasted a good week more a
nd was okay for practicing while I made new ones.

Solder does contain lead and it is very harmful to human health. You sho
uld not come into contact with the wire, that includes playing on a reed th
at has been in the same water as the solder.
