IMO, this is just about the biggest no-no there is - to make an American
style reed, anyway. Wires will seriously dampen uniform vibrations of the
reed, and interfere severely with its optimum functioning. I never use them
at all. If the opening is either too big or too small, I either find some
other way of dealing with it, or else quickly give up on the reed.
