Dear Cal and oboists;

I have been experimenting with wire on some reeds. I think it's beneficial
if your reed opening is too closed, or on a reed that might give you a few
more practice sessions. I find it helps a lot on commercial reeds since they
tend to close up which seems to be due to the fact that the cane is pushed
quite far down onto the staple.

I don't usually do so on my own handmade reeds.

I noticed that Ace hardware doesn't carry the very fine gauge wire; one can
make do with the finest they have; one turn around is probably enough.
