I can understand why people complain about the cost of
reeds as well as why they are so expensive. If you
consider what I make as a computer programmer,
including benefits, they should cost around $40 an
hour (actually probably 45 to include materials).
That's assuming each takes an hour on average and
there aren't alot of reeds that are unusable taking
from the total.

But I also groan about the cost of oboe reeds (what an
incentive to get back to making my own), since with
kids, mortgage, single income, etc., there's really
not anything left over to pay for them. But to be
honest, the reedmakers have the same problem- it's
called Real Life. Which I guess is why so many
beginners play inadequate store bought reeds... and
some quit becuase of it. Anyway, just my 2 cents. So,
don't feel bad about what you charge, even though
sometimes I feel bad paying it!
