Actually, the Josef oboe from Oboeworks that was available was actually tried
by a close friend of mine for about three weeks. A wonderful oboe. The Josef
oboes have a very unique sound that is very focused, centered, and smooth.
The scale is wonderful on them. This particular oboe had "green" gold keys
with a grenadilla body. Very dark sounding, yet the sound was lively and
projected quite a bit. Almost reminded me of the Howarth sound, but more
refined and more "americanized" to fit darker sounding timbre preferences (if
that makes sense.) Overall, a great horn, but too expensive for her to buy
and not quite "out of this world" enough to give up her current loree.
