I have been reading the back and forth over the war in Iraq, and then I
heard this morning a piece on the public radio program "The Next Big
Thing" on the Iraqi National Symphony Orchestra. Take a listen here:

It's the section call Baghdad on My Mind - about an orchestra that
practices without heat an electricity, in the middle of a city on the
brink of war.

Here's something that is both relevant to the world of music and the
greater life of the world at large. The piece points to a way to
reconcile these two worlds, without burying our heads in the sand, and
without losing sight of what it is that gives creative people a
