Subj: FW: [DR-L] Contra Plus English Horn
Date: Wed, 5 Mar 2003 09:47:37 -0500

I loved that the kittens curled up at your feet...with you playing a reed
from before the birth of their great grandparents.

My 16 year old long haired dachshund, tristan, would lay across my feet as a
pup when i practiced english horn. very cute...but now he's deaf. hmmmm.

Subject: [DR-L] Contra Plus

Usually once a year, I'm hired to play contra for the Colonial (NJ)
Symphony - have done some nice things in the past - Brahms Requiem,
Beethoven's 5th, etc. I just borrow a contra, get out my 20 year old reed
(from Steve Braunstein), which was recently replaced by 2 new reeds (from
Jim Rodgers - terrific reeds!) and go to it. The plus for playing contra
for me, is that my 3 Burmese kittens just curl up at my feet and sleep very
deeply, to the sounds of "Mother Earth". They've never done this for my
bassoon - just the contra!
Cheers, Jim
