Volunteered to play in "Pippin" at the local university, and when the
guitarist to the right of me cranked up his amp and the drummer did his
full drum routine, I resorted to the "movie theatre earplugs of last
resort"- good old fashioned large spitball you can make from a piece of
paper towel or tissue. Just ball up a wad of suitable size (about dime
diameter, and soak in the mouth- fashion into a cone and insert- works
great- the amount of moisture determines the attenuation. When not
needed, I just stuck it in my pocket.
