Just to be clear, I'm not offended by photos of cane. Heck, I didn't even
know that they *were* photos of cane. All that came across on my side were
streams of random characters.

The problems with uploading binary files to these lists include (but are
not limited to):

- increased bandwidth for those who still use dial-up for Internet access;

- screwing up systems that aren't set up for reading such files.

One elegant way around this is to put the photos onto a web site, then
include a URL in your message pointing to them. That way, anyone who is
interested in seeing the photos can easily do so without clogging the list,
and others can ignore them as they please.

On another note, does anyone know anything about the bassoon I mentioned in
another message recently? TIA.
