Here are my favorites not already mentioned (in no particular order):

1) Karl Nielsen Quintet opus 43.. THE definitive woodwind quintet.. requires
English Horn in one section, also low A extension in the bassoon (easy to
make one)

2) Malcolm Arnold Three Shanties Fun for the audience and performers. Must
have a brave horn player ;-)

3) Eric Ewazen Roaring Fork Title refers to the Roaring Fork River in
Colorado.. goes up to a high D in the bassoon.. active horn solo in the last
movement.. otherwise.. no great challenges for an intermediate group, but
just simply beautiful and almost film score like ..

4) Anton Reicha - I have two favorite Reicha quintets - Opus 88 #2 in Eb..
this is the most often performed.. just be sure to steer clear of "edited
versions".. one I can think of is missing over 300 measures of the piece! I
can recommend the Karthause - Verlag edition. The other Reicha quintet I
really like is - opus 99 #2 in F minor.. just be sure your flute player can
triple tongue LOL I personally like op 99 a bit more.. but opus 88 is more
often performed, and is easier on the fingers (still a challenge for bassoon
and clarinet though)

5) Paquito D'Rivera Aires Tropicales - HIGHLY recommended.. a real crowd
pleaser, fun to play.. but one word of warning.. don't attempt this one if
you have problems as a group with rhythm .. jazz and syncopated rhythms
abound .. flute doubles on picc (also on alto if you have one.. alternate
part written out for flute) oboe doubles on English Horn

6) Ludwig Thuille Sextet for flute, oboe, clarinet, horn, bassoon and piano.
Woodwind Quintets didn't get a while lot of play in the romantic era.. but
this one is an absolute beauty.. your piano player must get this music and
practice before you get together to read it..

7) Farenc Farkas Early Hungarian Dances from the 17th Century - OK.. the
first few movements of this are very simple.. pretty.. pretty unmemorable
that is.. but the last movement, Leaping Dance, is exciting, gives your
clarinet player a workout, and is a crowd pleaser (great encore)

8) Julio Medaglia Belle Epoche in South America - I really like this one..
heard a recording by the Berlin Philharmonic Quintet .. but then couldn't
find the music ... we had to get our copy directly from the composer, but at
that time he was preparing to publish, so who knows? It may be in print
now. Very fun, each movement is a solo for each of the treble instruments..
the last movement requires Eb clarinet and is the most fun in my opinion..
contact me privately if you are interested in getting this one.. I'm not
sure if the Maestro Medaglia would like his e-mail given out on a large
mailing list :-)

9) Marsha Schweitzer A Christmas Collection Vol 1 and 2 If your quintet is
looking for some interesting arrangements of Christmas tunes.. I would
recommend these... Vol 1 is the "religious" volume vol 2 is the "secular"
volume. Our quintet has used these every year for 4 years .. it's becoming
a tradition! Available from Marsha Schweitzer 905 Spencer St. #404 Honolulu,
Hawaii 96822 (if this is still a correct address)

10) Gyorgy Ligeti Six Bagatelles - Gyorgy Ligeti has enjoyed something of
a resurgence in the public spotlight as he composed the scary "piano
plunking" piece used in the film "Eyes Wide Shut" One of his earlier
compositions was this set of Bagatelles for woodwind quintet.. not easy by
any stretch of the imagination... but rewarding to play, and amongst all the
dissonances are some lovely moments..

Unless otherwise specified, all these should be available from TrevCo Music
( http://www.trevcomusic.com ) All 28 of the Reicha Quintets are available
for download as PDF files from the IDRS website if you are a member.

Hope this helps!
