trying." They are oddly comforted by me telling them of some of my own more
horrendous goofs--like coming in a bar early on the big oboe solo at the end
of the Schubert Unfinished, and continuing on til the end, a bar ahead--pure
nerves and fright at the time. Yes, I've since played it correctly, and
that conductor, God bless him was kind. I very nearly walked out at
intermission and quit, but because he was kind I went back to finish the
concert ok. Never forgot it tho, after 40 years ... Lois
