I would surely excuse the lapse on this basis, but I also insist that the
principle still applies. I am appalled at the level that some students are
required to perform; and I think they might learn more through easier music
that they thoroughly understood.(at their level of comprehension)
I have a student who auditioned for a spot in a high school regional band
and had to play significant section from each of the three movements of a C
maj Vivaldi concerto; another high school freshman who had to play the rondo
from K191. What do these people eat to make them so silly?
