Dear double reeders,
Wow, some of you are into this diet thing lot more than I am.
I'm not one who can go for long inbetween meals, or I get lightheaded.
The only thing I prefer is, to eat lightly before a rehearsal, and preferrably fruit if I'm hungry, but it's too early for a meal. A
cold sandwich (not hamburger or cheeseburger) and an apple with a glass of milk would probably hold me for 3 hrs. or so.
For a full Messiah, or other long concert, I like to have an Instant Breakfast along to have during the break. It's got some sugar,
something to tide my stomach over until mealtime, and it's tasty and easy to transport. You can get it already made in cans, too
(although at $1 each it's pretty outrageously priced).
And I ALWAYS take a cup of water with me whenever I play. There's nothing worse than having a dry mouth! For concerts, I use a nice
black one; I probably should use a straw so it isn't obvious when lifting the cup up to drink. I know of a player who uses a bright
pink one; I found it distracting (as an audience member once) when she lifted up the cup - a flash of pink on stage. Not classy.
Miriam
