The best, IMHO, Heckel is around $30K with a long wait. Fox pro models are
up to $20K full retail, and the best buy of all is the Renard 240 at a
little over $5000( I think). HOWEVER... the best is the one that is the
best fit for you. You will hear more than enough about the bassoon-shaped
objects available from China and some Eastern European sources. If money and
time are no object... Heckel. If money is an issue...Renard 240 will serve
you very well indeed; the rest are all spread around the middle. If you are
in mid range as far as money is concerned, you might want to contact Arthur
Grossman about a Wolf bassoon. He makes them sound very fine.
