"for George Silfies." - Commissioned by the St. Louis Symphony. A challenging concerto technically and musically. The outer movements are for Bb clarinet while the slow movement is for A Clarinet. The work is not based on tunes of Rossini, but rather serves as a homage to the composer. |

The original was scored for clarinet in A on the first two movements and clarinet in Bb in the last two movements. This is expressive music similar to Brahms and Schumann. The Piano part is extremely challenging. |

Clarinet concerto, op. 80Written |

Dedicated to Richard Muhlfeld, but premiered by Charles Draper in 1904. The concerto was written in 1902 but was not published until 1977. An important concerto since no other late romantic work is in the repertoire. First two movements are for Bb Clarinet while the last movement is for the A Clarinet. While the work is highly influenced by Brahms, the Concerto is more original. |

| An alternate version of the second and third movements, transposed for Clarinet in A, is included; however, only a Bb version is provided for the outer movements. The A clarinet transposition tends to lie better under the fingers.
