From Dr. Ed Lacy, el2@evansville.edu - "Deborah Barnekow was formerly an Oboe student of mine. She went to high school in Mattoon, Illinois, but I think she was born somewhere else and moved there later. She attended DePaul University in Greencastle, Indiana for two years, and then transferred to the University of Evansville, where she studied oboe, and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. She later attended Indiana University, and I think she got a Master's degree in composition there about 1973 or 74. I heard that she then moved to New York City, and I lost track of her after that. Her real name was Deborah Jones, and she changed it to Barnekow for professional purposes. As I understood it, Barnekow was the maiden name of one of her grandmothers. I don't know if she has legally changed her name. That's not much information, but it might be something that would lead you to other sources of information." |
