Capriccio for clarinet and orchestra (Rossini in Paris)
Written
Duration
Comments  "for George Silfies." - Commissioned by the St. Louis Symphony. A challenging concerto technically and musically. The outer movements are for Bb clarinet while the slow movement is for A Clarinet. The work is not based on tunes of Rossini, but rather serves as a homage to the composer.

Clarinet concerto, op. 80
Written  1902
Duration
Comments  Dedicated to Richard Muhlfeld, but premiered by Charles Draper in 1904. The concerto was written in 1902 but was not published until 1977. An important concerto since no other late romantic work is in the repertoire. First two movements are for Bb Clarinet while the last movement is for the A Clarinet. While the work is highly influenced by Brahms, the Concerto is more original.

Comments  "for Ingolf Dahl". An interesting, rhythmic piece.

Comments  An alternate version of the second and third movements, transposed for Clarinet in A, is included; however, only a Bb version is provided for the outer movements. The A clarinet transposition tends to lie better under the fingers.
