Graduate Fellowships, Teaching Assistantships and Clarinet The University of New Mexico Music Department is looking for excellent students and performers of clarinet wishing to study for a Master's Degree. Keith Lemmons, Professor of Clarinet Keith Lemmons is the Professor of Clarinet and a Presidential Teaching Fellow at The University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. He has performed at numerous International Clarinet Fests and Univ. of Oklahoma Symposiums, the International Double Reed Society Conference, the Brazilian Clarinet Conference, with USIA grants throughout Mexico and at universities throughout the U.S., Canada and Mexico. He performs with the acclaimed faculty New Mexico Winds, the Taos Chamber Music Group,Serenata of Santa Fe and the Ay! Clarumba Clarinet Quartet. He has also performed with the Santa Opera Orchestra, the New Mexico Symphony, Montana Symphony, Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque, Santa Fe Pro Musica, and Santa Fe Festival Ballet. He has twice received the UNM Teacher of the Year and has former students teaching at the University and high school levels, and playing in orchestras and prestigious service bands throughout the U.S. His teachers include Elsa Ludewig-Verdehr, Larry Combs, Charlie Niedich, Thea King, and Robert Schott. University of New Mexico Wind Symphony, Chamber Winds & Orchestra Under the direction of Prof. EricRombach-Kendall, the UNM Wind Symphony has been selected to perform for the Southwest Conference of the College Band Director's Association and the National Conference of the CBDNA. Comprised of approximately 45 musicians, these ensembles perform the very best in wind repertoire, routinely feature world class guest artist and commission and premiere new works. Most recently the Wind Symphony completed a recording project with NY Philharmonic principal trumpeter Phil Smith and principal trombonist Joe Alessi. The CD has recently been issued on the Summit label. The University of New Mexico Orchestra under the direction of Dr. Jorge Perez Gomez presents an average of nine concerts per academic year, including major symphonic repertoire, choral/orchestral works, and a major operatic production. A sampling of repertoire that the orchestra has performed in past seasons: Brahms - Sym. No. 2, Wagner - Meistersinger Prelude, Rimsky-Korsakov - Russian Easter Overture, Respighi - The Pines of Rome, Beethoven - Sym. No. 9, Mozart - Requiem, Revueltas - Sensemaya, Mussorgsky - Pictures at an Exhibition, Night on Bald Mountain, Tchaikovsky - Symphony No. 5, Shostakovich Sym. No. 9, Kodaly - Hary Janos and Orff - Carmina Burana. The Orff has been recorded on CD and is available for purchase through the Music Department. The orchestra is also currently involved in a long term project to record the orchestral music of Revueltas. The University of New Mexico is an institution with a student enrollment around 28,000 students, the Music department has 27 full-time faculty and 25 part-time faculty. It offers one of the finest music rehearsal, practice and performance facilties in the U.S.

Undergraduate Clarinet Scholarships Available The North Dakota State University Department of Music announces the availability of the Robert & Sheila Challey Music Scholarships for incoming students. Established in 2006, the NDSU Challey Scholarship Fund is committed to attracting and sustaining the finest music students in the region. Specific awards include: The Bill Euren Fellowship, named for the uncle of Robert Challey and Director of Bands at NDSU from 1948-1968. The Euren ("U-reen") Fellowship will be awarded to an incoming music major each year and will be equivalent to full tuition costs for four years. The Myrtle Euren Challey Scholarships, named for the mother of Robert Challey. The amount of these awards will be at least one-quarter the amount of full tuition for four years. The Patricia Yvonne Bizicki Scholarships, named for the mother of Sheila Challey. The amount of these awards will be at least one-quarter the amount of full tuition for four years. The Robert & Sheila Challey Scholarships are additional awards of significant support, presented to both incoming and continuing majors in music. Saddle River Valley Concert Band The Saddle River Valley Concert Band has been in existence since 1972. We have about 15-20 concerts per year which include playing at town festivals, health care centers, graduations, tree lightings, concert series, or just about any place where people will listen to us. The band consists of about 40 volunteer musicians. A few are music teachers and professional musicians but most of us are 9-5ers that do something else for our day job. We have an extensive music library of over 500 arrangements which include marches, show tunes, classical pieces and just about every concert band staple piece you can think of. We are an active band that enjoys playing music! We welcome all ages and skill levels! We are seeking ALL woodwind, brass, and percussion players. But we have an extra special need at this time for clarinet, flute, oboe, and bassoon. There are no try outs so just come in, introduce yourself to our conductor Harley Streiff and grab a library folder to read off. If you're interested in becoming a member we'll make a folder for you in the weeks to follow. Rehearsals are every Wednesday evening from 8:00-10:00 at the Cavallini Middle School on West Saddle River RD in Upper Saddle River, NJ. Near Route 17 and 287. Tenure track, Assitant Professor of Bassoon Position Description: Full-time, tenure track artist-teacher position in applied bassoon beginning in August, 2009. Responsibilities include bassoon instruction from undergraduate through doctoral levels; recruiting outstanding students at all levels; performing with faculty ensembles; directing/coaching student woodwind ensembles; and teaching related literature and pedagogy courses. Applicants should be qualified to teach in a second area. Qualifications: Doctorate or professional performance equivalent; college level teaching experience with documented success in recruitment and accomplishments of bassoon students preferred; expertise in orchestral, wind and chamber music; comprehensive knowledge of bassoon literature. Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor; salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience.

Bassoon player needed! Greetings to all high school and college age players of the Bassoon in central New Jersey. The Young Players Philharmonic, an advanced youth orchestra located in Franklin Township, New Jersey (just outside of New Brunswick) has openings for a second bassoon. CLARINET CHOIR CLARINET CHOIR It is my pleasure to invite you to attend regular rehearsals for a clarinet choir! The following are the offerings for the clarinet choir:
offering number 1: rehearsal sessions are from March 2009 to June 2009; and Please respond to me if you are interested in attending rehearsals for any one of the above offerings. All skill levels are welcome to attend. The long term objective is to continue rehearsals for the clarinet choir on a seasonal basis from September to June, with no rehearsals scheduled during July and August. THE CONDUCTOR The conductor will be Helen Russell; she is: a member of the clarinet faculty at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto & Mississauga), and is also a senior Examiner for woodwinds/brass/percussion students. She has conducted clarinet choirs at the RCM, the Claude Watson School for the Arts and the Colorado Bands Symposium. Further below is Helen’s bio for your review. THE SCORES There are approximately 265 scores for clarinet choir, ranging from classical to modern music. Further below is a partial summary of the scores. REGULAR SEASON REHEARSALS The cost is $100 per person for the regular season including 20 rehearsals from September 2009 through to June 2010; this cost is all inclusive (sheet music, etc). Bring your clarinet, music stand and reeds. The cost is: $100 for 20 rehearsals. The smiles on your faces: priceless! The rehearsals are to be held twice a month from September to June (no rehearsals scheduled for July and August). SPRING 2009 REHEARSALS Helen will provide 8 rehearsals for the Spring Season from March 2009 to June 2009; The cost for the 8 rehearsals for the Spring season 2009 is $40 per person, all inclusive. Please see the schedule below for exact dates and times for the Spring 2009 rehearsals. All rehearsals are booked for Sundays from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp is seeking strong college level clarinetists students to serve as counselors for the summer, and openings are still available. Staff positions at Blue Lake give college students great experience as a mentor and leader with Jr High and High School age students. Join the Middletown Symphonic Band The Middletown Symphonic Band of Middletown, CT, USA has been providing Connecticut residents and visitors with an excellent variety of music since 1979. Western Carolina University School of Music Graduate Assistantships Graduate Assistantships in several areas including clarinet are available for the coming year. These are renewable for two years. The stipend is $7000 annually. Limited out-of-state waivers are also available. The School of Music offers masters and undergraduate degrees in Performance, Music Education, Commercial and Electronic Music, and Music Theatre. The School is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music, and its faculty and students perform over seventy concerts per semester.
